About Joanna

Joanna has over 16 years of experience working on data problems in renewable energy. Trained in Physics and Acoustics, she started her career as a noise and vibration consultant for renewables consultancy Sgurr Energy, where she quickly became captivated by the performance improvements that could be derived from turbine operational data. Switching to wind developer, owner, and operator First Wind, she established herself as a leader in optimizing turbine performance, managing a team of analysts and engineers.

Desiring to influence the development of renewable energy technology more directly, she moved to Sunverge Energy, where she established an algorithmic approach to controlling a Virtual Power Plant of residential-scale solar and storage installations. Following stints at 8minute Energy and Generate Capital, and a return to school to develop her data science skills further, she joined Swell Energy, where she designed and implemented control algorithms for operating complex Virtual Power Plants in Hawaii and California.

Joanna lives in San Francisco. In her spare time, she advocates for sustainable transportation, writes music, and creates tech art installations. In 2024, she founded Elsewhen Productions, a company creating interactive experiences for festivals and events in the Bay Area and beyond.
